EU trade deals ‘seriously flawed’ says charity
CHRISTIAN Aid has called on the Government to review trade agreements made by the European Union with developing counties, after detecting “serious, damaging flaws” in them. The deals, which involved the threat of tariffs in order to drive down prices, were “deeply troubling”, said the charity’s economic-policy officer, Tzvetelina Arsova.

Synod member honoured
IN THE New Year Honours list, an MBE was awarded to Dr Anna Thomas-Betts, a General Synod member for Oxford since 1990, for service to the community and education.

Disability award for Church bodies
THE Church of England’s National Church Institutions have been awarded the Two Ticks disability symbol by Jobcentre Plus, in recognition of their commitment to good practice in employing people with disabilities. The criteria for the award required them to interview applicants with disabilities, consider them on their abilities, review their development needs after a year, try to continue to employ people who developed disability, and improve employee awareness.
