‘Not woolly’
by Bill Bowder
A NEW GROUPING of liberal Anglicans is to be formed in Oxford tomorrow. Affirming Liberalism see themselves as the “fuselage” of the Church. A planned national network will stand up for open-minded liberalism. For too long, they say, it has been dismissed as “woolly”. The network will be launched at Trinity College, Oxford, at a day conference with 135 participants. One of the organisers, the Revd David Hodgson, Rector of All Saints’, Wokingham, said on Tuesday: “Too often the Church is seen as Evangelical or Catholic, High Church, or Low. But they are the wings of the Church, and we are the fuselage,” he said. “We want to stand up and be counted, and that is quite difficult for liberals who don’t like to be counted”. www.affirming-liberalism.org.uk |
