| TRIBUTES have been paid to the Bishop of Bangor, the Rt Revd Anthony Crockett, who died on Monday after an 18-month battle with cancer. He was 62.
Bishop Crockett was consecrated in July 2004 at Llandaff Cathedral, having previously been Archdeacon of Carmarthen. Before that he had served as incumbent of three rural churches in West Wales.
The Archbishop of Wales, Dr Barry Morgan, led the tributes to the Bishop, whom he described as “a feisty and forthright man” with a “warm pastoral heart”.
“He faced his last illness with resilience, faith, and hope. His tremendous courage and faith strengthened and inspired others.”
His Hon. Philip Price QC, chairman of the Standing Committee of the Governing Body of the Church in Wales, said that the Bishop death was “a sad loss to the religious life of the nation. . .
“His scholarship was allied to a real pastoral understanding, and he worked tirelessly for the diocese and the province.”
He leaves his widow, the Revd Caroline Owen, and three children: Kate, Thomas, and Elizabeth.
His funeral will take place at Bangor Cathedral on Monday 7 July, with a requiem mass at 10.30 a.m. followed by the funeral service at 2 p.m. Both services are open to the public.
